Feast of Purim & Hosea's wedding

Hi friends!

Spring is finally here to stay at Restenäs, and it actually feels more like summer than spring. People are lying in the grass suntanning, playing frisbee, barbequing...Oh I love it!

We have started the last quarter of SBS and we have had lots of fun these weeks! First we had Ben and Angela coming to teach for 2 weeks. They are wonderful friends and my former leaders when I did the Titusproject, they live in Ukraine. Then we had a really fun and different class on the book of Esther...we went to Susa in Persia and celebrated the fest of Purim. We also had a disco party here at Restenäs... Then we started the Prophets, the students had to get used to a different type of literature, with lots of poetry, prophetic perfect*, telescoping*, motifs*, lawsuit and woe oracles*, and the recurring themes of the prophets: sin, judgment, restoration... It is quite overwhelming at first, with all these new concepts and strange language... But as you get into it and you understand the language better, ah how beautiful it is! I love the prophets! And of course I especially love Hosea... I taught it last year and this year again. It is truly beautiful, how God shows his love so filled with emotion and pain, loving his people who are turning away from him. He uses the imagery of a marriage, the people are unfaithful to him, but he keeps on loving them inspite of their unfaithfulness. I see his broken heart when they are destroying themselves with their idolatry, and how he hurts in punishing them, and even in the judgment he is always wanting their best, wanting them to return to him so that he can heal them. Oh if you want to hear more, just ask and I would love to talk about this book! It is truly amazing! Read it, and look for God's heart in it, you will be amazed!

Våren är äntligen här för att stanna på Restenäs, och det känns faktiskt mer som sommar än vår. Folk ligger o solar i gräset, kastar frisbee, grillar... Åh jag älskar't!

Vi har börjat sista terminen på SBSen och vi har haft massa kul de första veckorna! Först hade vi Ben och Angela här för att undervisa oss i två veckor. De är underbara vänner och mina föredetta ledare när jag gjorde Titusprojektet, de bor i Ukraina. Sen hade vi en lite annorlunda lektion med Esters bok... vi åkte till Susa i Persien och firade Purim. Vi hade även ett discoparty här på Restenäs... Sen började vi med profeterna, eleverna fick vänja sig vid en ny typ av literatur, med massa poesi, profetisk perfekt*, telescopera*, motiv*, rättegångar och ve orakel*, och de återkommande temana i profeterna: synd, dom och upprättelse... Det är lite överväldigande till en början med alla nya ord och koncept... Men när man kommer in i det och förstår hur profeterna använder sig av språket, åh vad vackert det är! Jag älskar profeterna! Speciellt Hosea... jag undervisade den förra året och även i år. Det är så vackert att se hur Gud visar sin kärlek så fylld av känslor och smärta, han älskar sitt folk som vänder sig bort ifrån honom. Han använder bilden av ett äktenskap, folket är otroget mot honom, men han fortsätter att älska dem trots deras otrohet. Jag ser Guds brustna hjärta när de förgör sig själva med sitt avguderi, hur det smärtar honom att straffa dem, men till och med i domen vill han alltid deras bästa, att de ska vända om till Honom så att han kan hela dem. Om ni vill höra mer, så fråga bara, jag skulle kunna prata massor om denna underbara bok! Läs den, och titta efter Guds hjärta, du kommer bli förundrad!

*Prophetic perfect: the author uses past tesnse to describe an event in the future, to show that it will absolutely happen. E.g. Isa 53

*Telescoping: A prophecy concerning a near future of the prophet is immediately folllowed by a long-range prediction, they are just put together. The reason would be that when they see the first prophecy fulfilled in their lifetime, they would know that the second prophecy would come true as well.

*Motifs: An underlying imagery or theme that comes up over and over again, often something from the History of Israel. E.g. The Exodus as a symbol of God saving his people.

*Law suit oracle: God is portrayed as a judge. E.g. Hos 4:1-10. First the people are summoned, the charge is given, what they have done wrong and then the verdict or punishment is given.

*Woe oracle: Woe is a hebrew term for distress.

*Profetisk perfekt: författaren använder dåtid för att beskriva en händelse i framtiden, för att visa att det absolut kommer att ske, tex Jesaja 53.

*Teleskopera: En profetia angående en när framtid i profetens tid följs omedelbart med en mera långsiktig förutsägelse, och de sätts samman. Anledningen är att då den först profetian uppfylls ger den trovärdighet att också den andra profetian kommer uppfyllas.

*Motiv: Ett underläggande bildspråk eller tema som kommer om och om igen, ofta någonting från Israels historia, tex Uttåget ur Egypten som en symbol för när Gud räddar sitt folk.

*Rättegångsorakel: Gud visas som en domare. Tex Hos 4:1-10. Först kallas folket samman, en anklagelse ges, vad de har gjort för fel och sedan straffet.
*Veorakel: Ve är en hebreisk term för nöd och smärta.

Vi åkte till Susa i Persien (Uddevalla) för att ha lektion med boken Ester, vi klädde alla ut oss i våra egna tolkningar av modet i Susa.

Me and Saana baked the famou "Hamantaschen" cookies, they are to represent the ears of Haman, the enemy of the Jews in the book of Esther. There are different fillings:apple sauce, fig jam, marmelade and chocolate.
Jag och Saana bakade de kända "hamantaschen" kakorna, de representerar Hamans öron, Judarnas fiende i Esters bok. Vi gjorde dem med olika fyllningar, äppelmos, fikonmarmelad, drottningssylt och choklad.

And of course we had lots of other fikas.
Och självklart hade vi massa annat fika.

We were celebrating the feast of Purim, the name comes from Pur = casting lots. So we all had to throw the dice in order to get any food. If you wanted some carrots you had to throw a five, if you wanted a cup you needed a 2 and so on... quite fun.
Vi firade Purim festen, namnet kommer ifrån Pur = kasta lott. Så vi var tvugna att kasta tärningar för att få mat. Om man ville ha morötter skulle man slå en femma, om man ville ha en kopp en tvåa osv.... Rätt kul.

Ester is all about beauty, you know she had to spend a whole year with beauty preperations in order to meet the king.
Ester handlar om skönhet, hon var tvungen att gå igenom ett helt år med skönhetsprodukter för att förbereda sig för att möta kungen.

Settlers night at Ben and Angela's place, we all had a good shot at winning, but in the end Charity won, as always :)

For one month my dear friend and former roomie Beth is in Sweden (coming from the States) so we have had some fikas and walks together!
I en månad är min vän och föredetta rumskompis beth på besök i Sverige (hon kommer från USA) så vi har fikat o gått på promenader tillsammans.

I taught the book of Hosea and we had a cool drama with the wedding of Hosea the prophet and Gomer the whore. Saana did a great job playing Gomer. We also had a wedding party at fika time, Irina made wonderful wedding cakes for us as you can see.

Jag undervisade profeten Hoseas bok och vi hade ett bra drama med brölloppet mellan Profeten Hosea och horan Gomer. Saana var jättebra som Gomer. Vi hade också en brölloppsfest på fikapausen, Irina hade gjort två underbara brölloppstårtor som ni kan se.



Charity also participated in the drama as Gomer's pimp.
Charity var också med i dramat som Gomers pimp.

 

Linda joined our class for Hosea, I hope she was not scared away by the scandalous drama. :)
Linda var med oss på denna lektion, jag hoppas att det skandalösa dramat inte skrämde bort henne :)

Passionplay in Uddevalla on Easter. All churches work together to put together a musical play on the main square in Uddevalla, many people came to watch in beautiful sunshine weather, including us from Restenäs.
Passionspelet i Uddevalla i Påsk. Alla kyrkor i Uddevalla arbetar tillsammans för att sätta ihop en musikal/drama på Kungstorget i Uddevalla, många kom för att titta, i underbart solskensväder, även vi från Restenäs.
